Meaning Of Bodhi Beads

Bodhi beads are deeply rooted in Buddhist tradition, used by monks to craft prayer and meditation beads. The term "Bodhi" refers to enlightenment, and these beads are made from the sacred seeds of the Bodhi tree, under which Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, is said to have attained enlightenment. As a symbol of spiritual awakening, Bodhi beads carry profound meaning, representing the pursuit of truth, peace, and mindfulness. They are often used during meditation and prayer rituals to foster concentration and connection to Buddhist teachings. Wearing or using Bodhi beads is believed to inspire spiritual growth and bring inner serenity.

Benefits Of Wearing Bodhi Beads

Wearing Bodhi beads offers both aesthetic appeal and Feng Shui benefits, making them a meaningful and versatile accessory. These sacred beads enhance the beauty of your hands while providing a sense of spiritual protection and good fortune. Beyond their visual charm, Bodhi beads are believed to promote health and well-being. The act of playing with or gently rolling the beads stimulates acupuncture points on the fingers, aiding in relaxation and improving circulation. This calming effect helps to soothe the mind, reduce stress, and foster a sense of peace. Perfect for daily wear, Bodhi beads combine tradition, wellness, and style, supporting your physical and mental balance in a harmonious way.

Types Of Bodhi Seeds

Types of Bodhi Seeds

  • Star and Moon Bodhi (星月菩提): Harvested from the rattan palm (Calamus), primarily found in China’s southeast coast and Southeast Asia, especially Hainan. The seeds are irregularly spherical, with a light yellowish-white colour after processing. Their surface features a prominent spot surrounded by smaller ones, resembling stars around the moon, giving them their name.
  • White Jade Bodhi (白玉菩提): Derived from the palm tree Corypha umbraculifera, native to dense forests in southwest China. Its smooth, white core resembles fine jade, earning its name.
  • Thousand Eyes Bodhi (千眼菩提): From the African palm tree Borassus flabellifer, with dense natural patterns resembling countless eyes, hence the name.
  • Phoenix Eye Bodhi (凤眼菩提): Likely from Ziziphus species, with each bead displaying eye-like buds, often sourced from Nepal or Ethiopia.
  • Lotus Bodhi (莲花菩提): Believed to be from wild jujube (Ziziphus), mainly in Nepal. These beads are cone-shaped with a sturdy, lotus-like form.
  • Vajra Bodhi (金刚菩提): From the fruit of Elaeocarpus ganitrus, grown at high altitudes in Nepal. Known for its hardness and multi-lobed structure, it symbolises protection from negativity.
